  • Raining Jane

Raining Jane ROCKED the Univerisity of the Pacific campus last week. I was thrilled to have been able to open for them with my poetry. They are a band out of LA but are currently touring in various states. They were incredible performers and were beautiful people both inside and out.  I'll post pics but for some reason, xanga is giving me errors when trying to add.... I know it is probably user error!! Here is just a little something I wrote for them.

    Raining Jane

    Jane is whispering

in the backseat of my car

Why are you always whispering Jane?

    Why are you always whispering?

    headlights northbound

    broke-down

    restless

    disregarding speed limit signs

    Jane is impatient

    gasping for breath

Tell my mother I’m raining Jane

    Tell my mother I’m raining

    she’s in deep

    over her head

    sinking

    rest stop blues

    recycled re-education

    on the run

    Jane treads water

    under a full moon

    hanging

    between twilight and dawn

    mystical and fevered

    much like Jane

Why are you always running Jane?

    Why are you always running?

    I wake up

    in the driver’s seat

    and scribble these words

that fall out of my head

    ruminations

    of a weepy quill

    I hear Jane whisper

    ‘it’s time’

    she grabs the wheel

and we’re on the run again

    Dear Chrissy,

I'm writing this on April 22 on an entry dated April 15. Looks like you don't blog all that often. I just read everything on this page, and you're spread out between entries.

I'm visiting from Jeff's (doahsdeer) site, where I read your interview yesterday. I looked at your website. Not too much poetry posted, but then since you're published, you probably don't post too much online.

I enjoyed everything I read. I like how you play with the structure in your work. (I also noticed you link to MySpace from your website but not Xanga.)

Raining Jane is a neat twist on the band's name. I also enjoyed the pantoum below "My dog is chewing on a cup". Neat that you can take the "everyday" and turn it into poetry. You have a fine gift.

@baldmike2004 - Hey Bald Mike! Thanks for stopping by, and you are right. I don't have much time on Xanga with kids, work, husband and pets!! But I have lots of fun when I'm here. Thanks for taking time to check out my website! Hope you enjoyed it. :)

Wow, a poetry reading opening!  ...and this poem

    "he’s in deepover her head

    sinking

    rest stop blues

    recycled re-education

    on the run

     "

This verse really jumps of the page.  So vivid an image.

Oh so glad to have you back. I pull out your book and read your poetry all the time but it is not the same as being able to type to you. This is such a neat poem.
