What the hell happens to time???

Wow, I haven't blogged since April... I feel like I missed so much. I have been SO busy with stuff that I just don't have time to go online and blog. Do I supersuck or what? That's what I feel like. Anyway, I am back for now and will try and get back in touch with things around here. Still doing a lot of writing though, if I'm not doing that then I'm dead... Here's a recent poem and I will really try and catch up with everyone.... enjoy :)

Lilies Lie

Lilies lie

about everything

in empty beds

lonely vases

her petals deceive themselves

Lilies lie

in gardens

fabricating new truths

lonely winter

her petals scatter about

Lilies lie

the ones

you gave me

lonely bulbs

her petals plucked off

of heavy books

Raining Jane

Raining Jane ROCKED the Univerisity of the Pacific campus last week. I was thrilled to have been able to open for them with my poetry. They are a band out of LA but are currently touring in various states. They were incredible performers and were beautiful people both inside and out. I'll post pics but for some reason, xanga is giving me errors when trying to add.... I know it is probably user error!! Here is just a little something I wrote for them.

Raining Jane

Jane is whispering

in the backseat of my car

Why are you always whispering Jane?

Why are you always whispering?

headlights northbound

broke-down

restless

disregarding speed limit signs

Jane is impatient

gasping for breath

Tell my mother I’m raining Jane

Tell my mother I’m raining

she’s in deep

over her head

sinking

rest stop blues

recycled re-education

on the run

Jane treads water

under a full moon

hanging

between twilight and dawn

mystical and fevered

much like Jane

Why are you always running Jane?

Why are you always running?

I wake up

in the driver’s seat

and scribble these words

that fall out of my head

ruminations

of a weepy quill

I hear Jane whisper

‘it’s time’

she grabs the wheel

and we’re on the run again

Once again it seems like forever since I had time to Xanga but if I'm so busy it means I'm still alive right??

Anyway, a couple great things happened this week. 1) I received a gem in the mail, Sandra's (BianchiStreet) poetry collection 'Airborne'. I'm honored to even have had her sign it! WhoooHoooo!

And 2) I have been invited to do a 15 min. set of my poetry at a concert for group 'Raining Jane'. They are an independent, eclectic rock-folk band based in Los Angeles, California! That is next Wednesday April 8th at UOP. Now I'm freaking out, because I have NO idea what to read and feel unprepared but I always thrive when flying by the seat of my pants! Then just like a woman my second thought was 'oh goody I have nothing to wear so I get to go shopping'!

Hope everyone is well and I need to catch up on all you Crazy Xangians! Enjoy the weekend :)

It feels like it has been forever since I have been on Xanga. I barely remembered how to log on!! Anyway like has been throwing rocks at me and I've been dodging them! Had lots of stuff going on both good and bad and it has kept me away for a couple months but lets just talk about the good! Book signing in December went great! The turnout was amazing and I couldn't have been more pleased. I will put some pics up of that in a couple days. Also the ezine I edit poetry for liquid-imagination.com has its second issue out and that is going wonderfully too. Check it out sometime! Anyway, I'm glad to be back and will try my best to catch up on everyone......now here's a quick poem.

My Dog is Chewing on a Cup

I’m busting at the seams

My skirt is too tight

It must have shrunk

Yeah, that is a good excuse

stoke

this fire

of autumn

feel it burning

shades of heat reflect

Miles with his sultry sound

first rains whisper kind of blue

a bronze harvest with untamed moon

Miles rides his trumpet made in heaven

leaves lace backstreets splashing color and sound

a scrumptious feast for all senses intense

fall of thirty-two, the voice was born

Patsy warms me like Jack straight up

contralto fire, cooling days

restless night on the road

after midnight walk

she was pure fire

in autumn

sullen

stoke

untamed

aggression

chasing rhythm

ferocious and deep

with sweet dreams I scribble

cheating hearts and bitches brew

breathlessly grasp and inhale song

One of my dearest friends went to Italy a couple of months ago, before she left I asked her to take some pictures of doors for Xangas sweetheart angi1972 it took her a couple of months to get them to me but better late than never so here you go Angie! Mayhem's Monkey...and other stuff

Lots of exciting things happening lately. I've been helping with editing poetry for Liquid Imagination for Xanga's own Pen_of_Mjoollnir. That has been educational and exciting. Also my poetry group is going really well, so well I had to put a cap on it. If there are too many people it gets to chaotic and we can't really help each other grow. Does that make sense? Also I've had the opportunity to read a couple more times in public. It is something that I really dread doing. I just get so nervous, I am not a real public kind of person (I don't know how you do it Saadia!) so the practice has been good. Anyway,I'll shut up now and just share 1 little thing I read. The crowd seemed to love it:

Mayhem's Monkey

there's a monkey on my back

Mayhem on my mind

sinning in my heart

a rock here in my gut

there it festers

there it grows

and Mayhem's little monkey

whispers in my ear

reckless demons dangerous

tearing me apart

bottles empty

Mayhem had plenty

IT HAS ARRIVED!!

Wowzers! When I got home from work today there was a little brown package waiting for me. My book! It feels so surreal to be holding it. Of course I have to check it out to make sure no errors but after that its ready. This was my first attempt at a book so I already see so many things I would have done differently. So many poems I would not have put in there or that seem so undone and stupid. I say, why oh why did I put that in there?? But hey, it has been this awesome learning experience that I would never take back. So I am working diligently on a second one. I want it to be stronger and better. I figure the first is practice. Hopefully it will be sitting on many a bookshelf soon! Either way, I have accomplished something..... and my kids are proud of me! WhoooHoooooo
